3.3 AVERAGE

This was just okay. Didn’t really like any of the characters and the mystery wasn’t really much of one. The main character suddenly regains her memory right at the perfect moment, kind of annoying. I lost interest toward the end but was going to give it 4 stars halfway through.

Starts off slow. I rarely want to stop reading a book. Curiosity is what got me through these books. I didn't connect to any of the women. I found them very superficial and silly on some levels. I did like the formula of switching back and forth in time and different perspectives. I just found the characters annoying and selfish. The last 10-12 chapters do move along a bit faster.

The end was not predictable but kind of meh.

Another winner by the ever-fabulous Liz & Lisa. A girls' trip goes off the rails in this rocket-paced thriller. Dual timelines and characters with plenty of secrets keep the suspense high and you flipping the pages, all the way to an ending you'll never see coming. Five stars!

3.5 stars.

A solid mystery but there were some deep lulls in the middle of the book and the ending was anticlimactic. I had been hoping for a bigger plot twist.

Ashley plans a girls weekend in Tulum for herself and best friends Natalie and Lauren. The three of them are on the outs and the Mexican vacation is a last ditch effort to salvage their relationships. While on vacation, the girls drink, fight, drink, fight, meet a cute guy, drink, fight, do yoga, drink fight. On the final morning of their trip, Natalie wakes up on the beach with no recollection of the night before and discovers that Ashley is missing. Together, her and Lauren work to piece together what happened the night before and try and track down Ashley.

I generally enjoy these summer beach reads (last time i lied, something in the water, the woman in cabin 10), and I understand that part of the fun of these books involves suspending a bit of disbelief, however this book drove me nuts (Ashley and Natalie’s final night together is ridiculously unbelievable and selfish, especially for two mothers of young children). The women are successful 40-year olds (they have -for the most part- nice homes, families, jobs, vacations) who spend a majority of the book bickering and drinking and rehashing basic white girl problems. I honestly couldn’t comprehend the motivations or reasoning behind any of their fights or decisions and the secrets they kept from each other felt like a way of furthering the book’s mystery rather than a way of developing actual characters. On top of that, the resolution to the mystery was frankly dumb and poor Marco (a major character) got completely shafted with his storyline at the end. I unfortunately had some major issues with this one.

If you like easy beach reads (see the ones i listed above) and have a couple hours to kill, this might be right for you. There’s some wish fulfillment in female friends traveling to a beautiful locale for drinks and fun, and there is a lot of discussion about female friendship and empowerment. Further the mystery, while not satisfying for me, might be for others.
mysterious

Meh. 2.75 stars rounded up.

**SPOILERS**
Maybe I'm not at a point in life where I can relate to these characters. None of them were likeable. They were all very whiney. I feel like it was a glorified suicide note and a lot of the creativity and suspense was lost with Ashley just falling/stepping into a cenote and Natalie just magically remembers what she forgot from being black out drunk/high.

Blazed through the last 27% this morning! Couldn’t do anything else until I knew what happened!!
I had theories, oh did I have theories! And they kept changing even just with one action or sentence by a character!
SO well written. Seamless. Characters were amazing and well thought out! Loved the location! Next thing I’m doing is googling Chichén Itzá! God I felt myself in so many of the characters relationship and marital struggles (not from the abuse side at all thankfully!) the fights were so real and I just wanted to scream at some of them to realize how they were wrong! But then I’d see the other persons side.
Girl’s Night Out is just a hugely successful book! I loved every minute of it and I can’t for a physical hardcover to grace my shelves!!
Five HUGE stars from me ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
