My favourite in the series so far. Great atmosphere and I also liked that the pov focused a bit more on Perez.
As a weird aside, I found this version of the cover art super relaxing to look at even though I'm not usually someone who cares too much about how book covers look.

I haven’t read the rest of the series, but I found it a bit dull. Enjoyed the birding aspect of things though. Just felt a bit dated, but the mystery was decent.

Deducting for a violent, distressing death of important character late in book. Grrr. Well narrated by Gordon Griffin. And the second murder often an afterthought in treatment, and I really enjoyed that character when living. The birding obsessives seemed accurate!

It was good to come across an Ann Cleeves book that I hadn’t read before, but this one is not as good as her usual standard, sad to say. The characters are not so well-drawn, and the ending in particular feels very contrived and unnecessary.
Devastated. Completely gutted. I can't even talk about it.
