This was my fave book out of the first 4. Very dramatic and a surprise ending (at least for me because it was out of order from the Netflix series).

This book was good right up to the end. The ending was hugely disappointing, because it turned out that Perez knew a WHOLE bunch of stuff which had not even been hinted at anywhere in the novel. There was no possible way for the reader to play along, because not only did Cleeves withhold important facts, she withheld the fact that Perez had gathered important facts. Madness. I do like the characters and the plot was a good one, but she just does not play fair with readers, and this might have been the worst of all of hers I've read so far--not just this series but also the Vera Stanhope series. I might conceivably read the next one, but it's not available in the library and if they won't buy it I certainly won't.
