I didn't enjoy this one as much as the previous Anne books, being more or less a collection of stories about all the different characters in Summerside (and Anne's dealings with them), it feels like a stopgap that you're impatiently waiting to go by before Anne and Gilbert can finally make a home together. But, there are some gems in it, some hilarious (and some infuriating) characters, my favourite being Rebecca Dew.

Girl, why is Anne so JUDGY and mean in this book! Waaaay out of character

I love the Anne books, and this was a re-read for me. This book seems to be the beginning of LM Montgomery getting maybe a little bored with her character(s) and dare I say, a little lazier with her storytelling. Still lovely stories, but Anne is much less a focus and I miss our Avonlea crew.

While this book is not completely epistolary, it is probably 60-75% told in letters to Gilbert. And Gilbert is not really ever seen either.

Wish I had realized before I started this one that it was written AFTER all the main series books. Not relevant to the main plot and you miss all the main characters aside from anne. It still had its good moments, but definitely had a feel of just a whole book of "bonus material" where Anne has adventures without all your favorite other characters. You can skip this one without actually missing anything.
