Another great read from the Emperor's Edge series by Lindsay Buroker! I was so engrossed in reading I didn't even realize I was done until I reached the acknowledgement page.

It does end on a bit of a cliff hanger, which is a bummer. But, there is some closure to a few other key plot points within this book, so I suppose I can forgive Buroker. Can't wait for the next one, and I'm excited --or perhaps slightly frightened?-- to get inside Malynado's head in "Blood and Betrayal".

Still a little glossy on some elements that I would normally find more serious, but that really is a stylistic choice from the author. She doesn't key it get in the way of her story.

The 4th book in this series is just as amazing as the first three.

In this novel, Amaranthe and her team have decided to kidnap the emperor, at the emperor's request. But how will they do it? And will they survive both the emperor's guards and the Forge, the entity trying to kill him and place a figurehead on the throne?

The action is beautifully scripted and we get a clear picture of each and every character not only his or her motives but they way they move and talk. Buroker makes each one feel very real. Once you pick up this series, you won't want to put it down.

Reread: 08/01/19
Actual rating rating: 3.5.
As explained by Buroker, books 4 is only a fraction of the arc that continues in book 5 and 6. So I found this book less exciting than the first 3. Also, while I appreciate being given a chance to learn more about the members of Amaranthe's team Akstyr's story wasn't as charming as Books or Basilard. I'm excited for Malydnado's POV though :)
But overall it was a great book and a good turning point to showcase the rest of the story.
