First off, let me say this is a great book cover. It and the title really grabbed my attention and lured me in.

This book is dialogue driven and the dialogue is mostly one-upmanship snark. I like snark, but I like it in small doses. It stops being funny real quick when everything is filtered through that.
By the halfway mark I have yet to come to care about either of the main characters or their fate and so I will let this one go. I recognize that many other people enjoyed this work. It just isn't for me.

Uuuuh, lesbische Vampire XD Ähm, ja, es gibt Gründe, warum ich "Ex-Wives of Dracula" von Georgette Kaplan trotz des wirklich grässlichen Covers ohne großes Zögern sofort auf meine Wunschliste gesetzt habe. Leider konnte mich die Geschichte letztendlich dann doch nicht so sehr überzeugen, auch wenn sie eindeutig nicht so schlecht war, wie es das Cover ist.
Ich denke, mein größtes Problem war der ziemlich zähe Anfang, denn die Geschichte braucht eine ganze Weile, bis sie wirklich ins Rollen kommt und das macht sie nicht direkt fesselnd und sorgt für einen alles anderen als flüssigen Einstieg in die Geschichte. Zwischendurch habe ich mich wirklich gefragt, ob das überhaupt das richtige Buch ist, denn die paranormalen Elemente tauchen erst nach dem entscheidenden Vampirangriff auf, vorher ist die ganze Geschichte reichlich langweiliges Teenydrama mit mäßig interessanten Protagonisten.
Denn während ich Mindy ganz okay fand - auch wenn ihr scheinbar aussichtsloses Geschwärme für Lucia dezent nervig war -, war das Objekt ihrer Schwärmerei eine eigentlich einfach nur anstrengend und hat relativ unangemessene Kommentare von sich gegeben. Überhaupt muss ich sagen, dass ich den Humor in diesem Roman teilweise grenzwertig und insgesamt recht überzeichnet fand - es gab Stellen, die offensichtlich humorvoll gemeint waren, aber bei mir einfach nicht so ankamen und insgesamt war die Geschichte tatsächlich lustiger, wenn sie nicht versucht hat witzig zu sein, da das an vielen Stellen sehr erzwungen wirkte - und einige der Dialoge waren recht hölzern und anstrengend zu lesen.
Trotzdem, nachdem die Geschichte einmal Fahrt aufgenommen hatte, wurde sie wirklich unterhaltsam - und ziemlich abgedreht, allerdings auf eine Art und Weise, die mir ausgesprochen gut gefallen hat. Die Geschichte kommt mit ein paar wirklich guten Ideen daher, die ganze Vampirsache ist witzig und gruselig zugleich und auch sonst ist der Roman stellenweise durchaus recht explizit und gehört zu den wenigen YA-Romanen mit tatsächlichen Sexszenen, die ich bisher gelesen habe.
Alles in allem haben mir der zähe Anfang und die hölzernen Dialoge den Einstieg in den Roman leider etwas vermiest, aber trotzdem fand ich "Ex-Wives of Dracula" eigentlich sehr unterhaltsam, es hat halt nur etwas gedauert, bis ich mit Georgette Kaplans Vampirgeschichte warm geworden bin. Für Leute, für die lesbischer YA-Vampirroman interessant klingt, ist es definitiv einen Versuch wert, ich empfehle aber einen Blick in die Leseprobe zu werfen und die Erwartungen nicht zu hoch zu schrauben.

My Opinion: I appreciate the reimagining, idea of it was absolutely solid, and worth a book. Just not this one. Execution is atrocious. Teens to young adults, duller than spoons, fill about four fifths of the book with stupid dialogues, awful monologues, clichés, even when they actively acknowledge them, and a lot of pressuring. Pressure to admit to feelings, admit to sexuality, commit to relationship. If you don’t know if something’s okay: try changing character genders. Would this have been fine if it was a straight guy pressuring a gay woman? No, that would’ve been nasty. This is also nasty. I understand there’s an attempt to show “real” in an urban fantasy book, but it reads like satire while it isn’t satire (yes, that is indeed a bad thing).

The pacing was all over the place. Most of the plot was in the last quarter of the book. Had it been more evenly spread out throughout the book maybe this could have worked. Parts of the dialogue were really fun however this surely was Jennifer's body fanfic at some point.

Their dialogues are very weird, I refuse to believe people talk like this. A thousand references that felt really unnecessary. The girl's relationship also felt weird, not like they were friends because they liked each other, idk. My main problem and why I couldn't finish was the transphobic comments that were completely unnecessary and came out of nowhere.

I am not joking when I say: this is literally a very thinly disguised "Jennifer's Body" fanfiction. Literally. There were so many scenes that were ripped from the movie; outfits, pieces of dialogue, Megan Fox is mentioned like 5 times.
Is this book good? No. But it's really entertaining, that's for sure. If you like the humor of the film, like me, then you might enjoy this one.

First off, I hate vampire. New thought, I hate moody vamps. Good this this book is fill with quick wit. Passion and down right goofy ass characters. I adored everything about it. It's like wanting a cheeseburger and finally getting one with perfection in the buns. I listen to a new book every night at work. This year so far, I can say it's number one
