Took a while for the plot to build but then it was fantastic! This author really hates her characters in the best way haha

loved loved loved this! was slow at the start but I got hooked so fast and loved the plot twists and development. Characters Elias and Laia are so likeable and their development is so fun and interesting to see! absolutely shocked at the ending and eager to dive into book 2

This was a reread for me, but it was as excellent as the first time I read it. I love the schemes, the politics, the questionable alliances. I loved watching Laia's transformation, her bravery, and her tenacity. Elias was equally as impressive. He sacrificed so much to save Laia and his soul. The setting, based on the ancient Roman Empire, was harsh and brutal, where the lines between allies and enemies blur. Compelling, emotional, and a great start to a series.

Fantastic read! I read most of this book on Audible and it was so much fun. The world and its military focus was really interesting, and then I liked the small touch of fantasy with the Augurs and different supernatural creatures/beings. I liked the development of the characters and just ahhh, so much <3 Full Review to come!

I felt like it was too YA for me from the getgo, but had potential. Until I got to Chapter X, there was a weird scene with Hel and Elies I just can't look past. Just not for me!
