While I was somewhat aware of how activism on social media occurs, I learned SO much about the work that Black women have been doing specifically. This book highlighted so many Black women I didn’t know about before, and this text is really important in terms of how we can support Black women in many different ways. It discussed intersectionality in depth and the various ways in which different social groups view oppression. This is absolutely worth a read.

Rounding up from a 3.5. Feminista Jones' book discusses Black feminists and their contributions to the digital space. Her words were accessible, centered on Black women, and gave me some readings to add to my TBR list. However, I agree with others that the book has a memoir quality because it's full of primarily personal discussions about Jones' work, thoughts, and connection to the feminists discussed. It doesn't make it any less informative or enjoyable to read, but it's not what I expected from the description. Though I applaud her choice to highlight other salient aspects of her identity (the Black Mamas Matter essay was among my faves), I wish Feminista Jones had further discussed her queer identity in context.

I learned a lot from this book. As someone who works in social media, it made me realize how much I've missed from not following Black women sooner (and made me reflect on what that says about me) and how much they've transformed the way people all over the world use social media. I appreciated Feminista Jones' seriously insightful, blunt, and witty breakdowns of these movements that she's been involved in from the ground up. Highly recommend this book!

Excellent, as expected. I have followed Feminista Jones on social media for many years and learned so much from her and many of the Black women she talks about in the book. They are providing huge, often unpaid services, making the world a better place and this book outlines how. A really important recent history as well.
