I would have really enjoyed this more if it hadn't been so long. I really did like the story, but the ending was not worth over 600 pages. I get it was a slow burn, but it was almost TOO slow of a burn for the tiniest bit of seeing them together  we got at the end of the book. The characters were great, but sometimes the main character was a little bit cringe and it bothered me. Overall, it was pretty good.

would most likely reread, but not definitely ☑️

Mariana always completely ruins my expectations for love. I'm a hopeless romantic now. Me and my bleeding heart are in shambles.

In all seriousness, it's a great book. I started reading it because of my love for football and Mariana's work. I love how(like in so much of Mariana's work) each character has depth and purpose. The real world details factored into this fictional romance adds some flare. I really enjoyed this read.

i feel like i’m the only person that didn’t like this book omg. but i swear i can rant about this forever.

i have no issue with slow burn romances, but i don’t even think this could be considered a slow burn. they barely interacted for about 60% of the book, and there was absolutely nothing between them. no chemistry what so ever. there was no indication that they even liked each other until the book was almost over. in my opinion she had more chemistry with zac.

75% of this book was just useless filler content. i mean, it literally started out with like, 20 pages of her talking about how she was going to quit. so unnecessary. it was so boring.

and aiden? he’s an ass. he treated vanessa like shit and couldn’t understand why she felt the way she did. yet she kept forgiving him. i couldn’t understand it.

writing about two people that barely interact for 300 pages and then finally writing in some romance between them in the last 30 pages does not count as a slow burn. the whole point of a slow burn is to have a gradual build up, one that has you eager for them to get together. this just completely missed the mark.

only gave it the 2.5 because 1. i really liked zac, and 2. i can admit the relationship they did have in those last 30ish pages was cute.

oh and also, why do they have to keep mentioning how big and large he is?? like i understand they just mean typical football player size, but the way they kept exaggerating it and bringing it up made me unable to picture him as anything but a literal giant and it made me unable to feel any attraction to him.
