I would have really enjoyed this more if it hadn't been so long. I really did like the story, but the ending was not worth over 600 pages. I get it was a slow burn, but it was almost TOO slow of a burn for the tiniest bit of seeing them together  we got at the end of the book. The characters were great, but sometimes the main character was a little bit cringe and it bothered me. Overall, it was pretty good.

would most likely reread, but not definitely ☑️

Mariana always completely ruins my expectations for love. I'm a hopeless romantic now. Me and my bleeding heart are in shambles.

In all seriousness, it's a great book. I started reading it because of my love for football and Mariana's work. I love how(like in so much of Mariana's work) each character has depth and purpose. The real world details factored into this fictional romance adds some flare. I really enjoyed this read.

Oh ho ho. This was a really good read. Funny, real slow-burn, strangers-to-friends-to-lovers and marriage of convenience? Sign. Me. Up.

My chief complaint is that I wanted to spend more time with Vanessa and Aiden after they got together. I'm really glad there was no third-act-breakup - I'm honestly tired of this trope.

Would highly recommend for adult romance fans.

Spice level: 🌶🌶.5 (one detailed scene; one semi-detailed scene)

My other complaint is the epilogue. Now, this is more of a personal opinion and not something that would make the book better necessarily. I don't like kids. I like kids in books even less, especially when my characters have said kids. That's the only reason I didn't like the epilogue. It was short, yes, and sweet. But it had kids.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Not knowing much before going in was a great surprise. But also if you like slow burn and “guy falls first”, read this.

I’ve read a few other MZ books and although this one had a definite change in familial tone compared to the others I’ve read of hers, it made sense for the plot.

Only few things made me unhappy with this book, but overall it was great. I especially loved how it was missing the generic climax moment all romance books tend to have towards the end. It made reading this so much more enjoyable.
