I was looking for another Mitch Rapp/Gray man type series and I’d seen this movie so thought I’d give the first book a try. It’s hard to rate a book when you’ve already seen the movie, but here goes.
The writing was decent with lots of detail. Sometimes a bit too much. I did think the random thoughts of Reece toward another woman were weird since he was so in love with his newly deceased wife. The revenge is understandable and he is technically still killing terrorist. Just U.S. ones. I don’t understand the “misogynist” comment reviews. I saw none of that. And I’m a woman. Overall, worth trying book #2.

So I've heard of this book from the tv show being released and I wanted to check out the book first. Not gonna lie, I didn't get to finish it till now since life happens but once the action started I couldn't stop and actually increased the speed so it can get to the end.
The deaths were brutal and the action was detailed enough that I could see it played out in my imagination. There is a twist towards the end that thinking about it later on I realized that yeah, I should've seen this coming.
I kind of relate this to the Ryan Drake books so I'll definitely be looking into the next book in the series because, surprise, another twist on why there's more books in the series that I'll spoil since i found it funny.
I was a bit spoiled on that twist since I was looking at the rest of time left on the book and when there was still like 2 minutes to go i thought 'his tumor isn't terminal' and yeah pretty much that. That made me laugh out loud.

SPOILER ALERT: Chapter 50 (Audiobook Part 8, part 3. 4 min in)
WTF!
An Isamaphobic internal rant. So this is how you get folks to drink the f**ng Kool-Aid: 'We Hate You - We Refuse To Actually See You'
Damn! This was a great read. The politics are WAY different than mine - no problem. That's why I kept reading.
And then I hit this subtle statement of the 'truth' about a whole people.
False.
Let's change a word or two here. Instead of Islam, let's try this...
(paraphrasing & rephrasing)
The Hero has had experience with Christians running the gamut from...
Those who were Christians in name only,
Some are well-meaning Christians who do as best they could and fall short (only attending on Easter & Christmas).
Right down the line to deep believer Christians who have been 'indoctrinated by an archaic ideology of hate', who blow up abortion clinics and murder worshipers in mosques (fanatics).
Hello! No! There's a gap.
Identify the purposeful omission here.
Every religion has members who are mainstream practitioners of Love.
Love, not hate.
That's the core premise of the Abrahamic faiths. Love.
Fanatics are not the majority.
When your list includes, practitioners in name only, practitioners who suck at their practice, and crazies who subscribe to a warped vision of worshipping G-d, then there is a problem.
There's always a group of normals who are sorta doing things as a Founder intended.
Damn!
I was loving this book - primarily because of what I learn about perspectives different than mine. And it has lots of gear talk.
But it deeply saddens me that the internal dialogue of the main character / the hero was written in such a way to blindly ignore honest, loving practitioners of Islam. Or any faith - He coulda' been bashing any group and I'd be writing the same thing here.
Author could have stuck to his principles, still connected with his apparent audience and still acknowledged the full spectrum of Muslims in this dialogue.
Damn.

Excellent gripping premise. I felt like Reese was the Punisher made flesh and blood. I was on this ride with Reese from beginning to the end. I was rooting for him.
I usually like these kind of books and this one started okay but it was quickly downhill from there.
The main character is not likeable. He’s boastful, barely grieves his family, is flirting with a woman days after his wife and daughter are killed. But what really angered me was the hypocrisy of the man; the guy literally came back from the the Middle East, where he killed “terrorists “ and comes home, goes on a killing rampage himself & still doesn’t have the brains to see how that looks.
And of course, the author manages to make some of the bad guys Muslims. And the main villain is both a “liberal” and a woman. I was sympathetic at first but it got a bit too misogynistic, racist and condescending for my taste. Was hoping for a new Reacher series but do not recommend. DNF

This book keeps you on the edge of your seat. Reece is kick-ass and I don't blame him for everything he is put through. Apparently some corrupt government officials decided to mess with the wrong guy. Can wait to read the next one!
