DNF at 36 percent. First, I’d like to thank Mr. Carr for his service. And, I know we both have trained or shot at a certain idyllic firearms training facility in Oregon. But as for this book: Cartoonish, simplistic, full of right-wing stereotypes and one dimensional characters. Lots of chest pounding and dick swinging, lots of liberals bad, women bad except as cock cozies, non Americans bad, civilian oversight bad, SEALS can do no wrong (except any of their leaders who are in bed with evil liberals).

Look at my reading list and know that I too am a student of war (among other things). I’m also an avid competitive shooter. I read widely and voraciously. But then, I’m also an LGBT woman. I do not and cannot recommend this book and I can’t imagine trying anything else of his.

Protagonists biggest ops are unironically liberals.

Some parts read like a mission straight out of Call of Duty MW/BO whoch was fun but damn… dude really hates California and liberal polices.

James Reece is a normal guy. He still gets stuck in traffic. He has a smoking hot wife who is dead now. He does not cry. Every time a tear starts to form it gets absorbed into muscle. Every time his daughter says “I love you” he gets buff. His daughter is also dead now.

Every day he solemnly brings flowers to the graves of every fallen soldier in the country. He then visits his mother who has had dementia since before he was born. Great news: she’s lucid today.

James Reece sleeps on a bed made of American flags. His diet is 100% protein. His piss stinks, like a real man’s. He is so honorable. He feels bad for fat, ugly women. They are grotesque, but he will still look them in the eye. And he does not kill them. He is a good man. He even has one Mexican friend. He is a criminal, of course, but he is rich and lives in a nice neighborhood.

He is a natural born killer. Lesser men piss themselves when he walks by. James Reece is always surrounded by piss.
