Classic PG, another story of Tudor England's unsung royal women, with lots of glimpses of the Elizabethean court life, and various rivalries for the throne during the early years.

I think this is the weakest of the Tudor series, I don't know, I think Jane Grey is the only one I could find myself caring much about (and we know how long she's in the book...)

Well, I went into this book knowing that it was written by Philippa Gregory and expected something COMPLETELY different than what it was. But I wasn't disappointed. I think my favorite part about The Last Tudor was how the pace built suspense. You never know how much time is going to pass between a chapter or a break within the chapter. It could be the next moment or the next month and season. In addition, there were a lot of moments when a character was looking up and feeling hopeful, and then the next chapter immediately plunges them (back) into despair, a la a diary entry: "Dear Diary, I really think he's going to ask me to the prom; Dear Diary, I'll never know love and life is nothing but meaningless despair." But this sort of pacing gave me a kind of anxiety that mirrored the characters' anxieties as they dealt with the queen and not knowing what was going to happen to them next, and I thought it was rather brilliant. Definitely worth a read if you are interested in Lady Jane Grey's story, the Tudors, English royalty or history at all!
