Love love love this series. So much nostalgia. And the ending doesn't cop out, I don't think. I felt it was powerful.

Reread the trilogy after initially reading them as a kid (?!). I sometimes found the writing style, especially of characters' extensive direct thoughts, a little jarring, and I think the pacing was perhaps a bit rushed toward the end. Also, while I respect this book's contribution to gay rep in fantasy, I'll just say I'm glad there's more to pick from now... All that aside, the plot is compelling, the aesthetics are great (Van wreathed in fire taking his revenge on the bandits!! ), and it was fun to revisit these books.

Meh. MEH. I'm glad I was forewarned about the gratuitous sexual violence toward the end of the book.
Feel like with this one Lackey finally found her groove. The action scenes were tense and exciting and there was less faffing around. The ending made me cry!
