Hard to believe this book was published in 2020. The nefarious plot elements felt old and tired. Not worthy of Reacher.

Voter fraud, ransomware, Reacher with a cellphone!, and an abundance of military-adjacent women. A coffee shop, a truck stop, and a diner. Standard Reacher mostly. But somehow it fell flat. Still ok, 1000 times better then the Agatha Raisin sh*t I’ve been reading lately, and it certainly hasn’t put me off the series, at least not yet. But it just didn’t feel quite right.

Many thanks to Random House/Ballantine Delacourt Press for providing a digital ARC through NetGalley.

Jack Reacher keeps traveling, and winds up in a little town currently in crisis because of ransomware attack on the town's computer systems. Reacher teams up with the fired IT guy, a retired FBI agent, and an embedded FBI spy to take down the group that did it. Battles Nazis and Russian mafia types all at the same time.

It was an great read, and I am enjoying Reacher tackling current event type problems, while still eschewing most modern technology. Also interesting, is that with this book, Child is handing the baton to his brother, Andrew, so Jack can continue. Writing was well done, and I hope we will follow Reacher through many more interesting adventures.

Ehhh, no niestety nie polubiliśmy się. To takie mocne dwie gwiazdki, żeby nie było. Bohater przerysowany i irytująco doskonały, nieomylny i niepokonany. Wątek kryminalny jakby nie istniał, do połowy nawet jakoś mi to szło, potem to już było tylko męczarnia. Ale jak szukacie jakiś absurdów faszystowskich to zapraszam XD (aczkolwiek nie polecam)

Ohhhhh boy. There was hope but it was short lived. This book is different in tone and style which is fine. But REACHER IS DIFFERENT WHICH IS NOT FINE. And I don't know why the authors chose to make this one gloomy and depressing. Thankfully, he returns to form a bit in the next book so this is not permanent.

The villain is AWFUL. Goodness that's unoriginal and boring. It's painful to read because the villains are so uninteresting. There are some interesting bad guys but goodness the rest are terrible. I can't think of enough synonyms to "bad" to describe it.

I gave this book three stars because it's the first collab between Lee Child and his brother Andrew, so I have grace for that. But yeah don't feel bad about skipping this one.
