hm...i'm sorry but when the writings not good, the flimsiness of the plot becomes unbearable. was this rushed to publication because of the election? it reads like a draft. Lee Childs was a master of the ridiculous. his characters were cartoons but the ironic writing made me enjoy the books. Listen to this dialog:
"No. There was nothing in the backup. Nothing overwrote what was already there on whatever crappy secondhand servers I used to cobble it together."
"That's exactly the point."
"Oh my god." Rutherford stood up and pressed his palm to his forehead. "Sarah I love you."
or here:
Reacher left Rutherford in the car like he was a kid. Or a dog. It wasn't a decision Reacher was happy with. He knew there were risks. He'd heard there were laws against leaving kids in cars. He wasn't sure about dogs."
Come on guys it would be better to retire the franchise than ruin it!

As Lee (or is it Andrew) always says: "Rule one: if you don’t know the trouble you’re in, keep Reacher by your side."
Most of the previous Reacher books I read were wonderful except the last few. This one was the worst of them. Not the same Reacher and the story is getting old and repetitious.
Another 3.5 stars. The transition to Andrew Child seems to be working well.
My only gripe, and this is true of almost all the Jack Reachers I've read, is that there's a very distinct faltering at the end of the second act. The conclusions are often the weakest parts of the books. Slightly rushed, sometimes perfunctory, and frequently predictable.

2 or 2.5. You can tell Lee Child did not write this. Very disappointed.
