Excellent understanding and coverage of racial issues, written in the 1960s. Interesting ties to more recent history!

What happens when president and several of his successors die at the same time? The answer in this novel is that 1960"s USA get a blacke president. Set in times when Negroes were still trying to be treated like whites in many ways the Novel follows Douglass Dilman's first few months as president. Nobody wants this man but if they have to have him they would prefer that they pull his strings, yet Dilman does not exactly sing to their tune. An immense novel where almost everyone turns against him. This is so well written

Another classic. I can't remember the details, but I know I enjoyed it.
