Unfortunately this is a book that I have to put as a DNF.

The concept of the novel was cute and seemed like it was going to be a lot of fun to read and to have for younger readers. Who didn't want to go on an adventure when they were flown there in a carriage carried by a dragon? But I found Sofia to be a little bit of an annoying character and wasn't able to get through the book because she was just negative about so much. But it was a fun story while I was reading but I couldn't make it through with Sofia.

This was a really cute middle grade about dragons and princesses among other things. However, that's kind of all it was. I feel like it was trying to accomplish too much. There were lots of messages about privilege and power and being confident in who you are and where you come from, but they got to be too much. All of the characters other than the princess also lacked dimension. It seemed like there was supposed to be character growth but it just seemed situational and almost, easy?

All in all it was a cute, fun book and I can see people of the age group enjoying it greatly, but I had some issues with it.

Struggled to connect emotionally with the protagonist, and spent more time worrying about everything that could go wrong than I did enjoying the plotline.

In this third companion novel of the Chocolate Heart, we go traveling with Princess Sofia. She has been a bookworm all her life and now she is thrown out into the wider world, by her older sister, the Crown Princess.

We enter into the world of university, of philosophy, of meeting new and different people, making friends and going onto an adventure on a huge scale once Sofia decides to take matter into her hands.

This book explores friendship and family and sibling relationships, but also meeting your own fears head on and leaving them in the end behind.

Loved it.

I had a good time with this book, it is cute and heartwarming. I believe it is book 3 in a series, but as each book apparently has a different main character, I didn't have any problems understanding it.

The main character Sofia is very likeable and layered; a privileged princess who has also had to cope with a lot of pain and loss - and who is fascinated with philosophy. Her relationships with her friends (who include a dragon, goblins and a kobold) are all great to read. I possibly would have liked to see her relationship with her older sister handled a little differently but it's not a major issue.

Overall an enjoyable, cosy read, and I will be checking out the other two books on the series.

My least favorite of the series, but still plenty enjoyable. I think the plot meandered a little too much for my liking, and I think Sofia's voice wasn't as clear or memorable as Aventurine or Silke's. I did enjoy the new characters, though I would have liked more time dedicated to Sofia's friendship with Jasper. Also, as a philosophy MA, I chuckled at all the philosophy jokes. Other than that, still solid fun and I'm sure most kids who enjoyed the first two will enjoy this one.
