Not a book to read if you hate your job

imagine a depressed girl in her 20s about to move to chicago with no job or career lined up attempting to find the merit in a book about a depressed girl in her 30s living in chicago with no job or career lined up. now open your eyes. that girl is me. and i cannot find the merit

Depressingly relatable, but not relatable enough for me to have truly enjoyed it. I kept reading in the same way people slow down when they see a car crash on the side of the road.

This was a challenge. I liked it well enough, I could connect to the anxiety stuff and the millenial ennui buuuuut the protagonist annoyed me in the same way Ottessa Moshfegh's character in My Year of Rest and Relaxation did. Just privileged, monied people. Not to deny their mental health struggles (that part I could connect with a lot) but my experience of MH problems as a working-class person means I can't just take a year off, or not look for work after I lose a job.

Depressing and a bit too real
