the only thing that makes me want to KILL MYSELF as much as this book does is a condescending ass Boomer Take that boils down to “BREAKING NEWS: Menial jobs suck. Bosses suck. This book sucks.”
yeah. that’s why we all want to fucking KILL OURSELVES. “millennial burnout” is a lame title for this kind of devastation of the human spirit. it HURTS to imagine a world outside of capitalism and exploitation and over consumption and individualism, and know you won’t live to see it. that’s the conversation within this book. we’re building an army of zombified, depressed, raging cunts with crippling student debt. Millie is so jarringly awful. living in her mind is so isolating, and yet i couldn’t put her away. the idea of “recovery” is so addictive! the right coffee thermos, 10 step skin care routine, groceries that arrive in matted packaging to indicate JUST HOW NATURAL they are, a good stretching practice... this is powerful stuff. this is what BEING GOOD is!
certainly better than anything you could get from One Single Supportive and True Friendship.
i think this little novel is brilliantly haunting. i’ll say it. i cried!
it’s like if A Christmas Carol wuz about a girl <3
