A deep (pun intended) story exploring the impact of generational trauma and how to use the past to inspire the future.

Daveed Diggs does a wonderful job voicing the audiobook.

The pace of this book was slow and I found myself drifting a bit to get into it, I still ultimately enjoyed it, but it jumped around in timelines while talking about the histories and it wasn’t already clear where we were and who it was regarding. I feel reading the physical book may have been more helpful in this case instead of audio. Very interesting concepts of mer-people and their origins

Wow this was pretty incredible and worth a read. A re- telling of the slave narrative with a focus on remembrance while reclaiming one's self.

I absolutely loved this book. I initially picked it up without reading any summary because the premise was intriguing, and I'm so glad I did. This is not an easy read, due to the subject matter, but I would recommend it to anyone open to something darker. And to anyone finding it too difficult
the second half is not quite as heavy as the first.
