Not my favorite Kristin Hannah. The first 200 pages were somehow intense but incredibly slow, and then Part 2 was just tragedy after tragedy. A compelling story that made me realize how little I really know about the Vietnam War, but the novel itself fell flat for me. I think my expectations were too high, as I absolutely loved her 3 previous novels.

speechless. I was hesitant to start such a long historical fiction novel. But this is easily one the best books I have read ever. I laughed I cried I screamed in anger and frustration. Just a beautiful and emotional work.

It seems like a lot of these reviews conveniently are ignoring the just dumb parts of this book. The side characters seem to have no real lives of their own, able to just leave their families to coddle the MC. She was her worst when she got involved with a man. I couldn't keep reading her having all this PTSD but worrying the most about men. When her man took a helicopter to come comfort her??? In the war tents???? Come onnnnnnn..... be serious. The historical parts of the book were interesting, the overall plot of the MC was just bad.
