It's a tight story, maybe too tight but Kristin Hannah knows how to deliver a well wrapped, cinematic emotional tale, and I enjoyed listening to it! I appreciated that Frankie was rather an anti-hero at times and her difficult experiences don't wrap up perfectly. The comparison of how the previous generation coped with grief and difficulties was a nuanced addition (although having $$ does help a lot too, haha). However, I am pretty unimpressed that while the author is respectful of the Vietnamese (women), they are very much not characters who tell their stories too. Maybe that wouldn't sell as well, but I think in 2024 you can be more creative.

good book but i just can’t believe frankie decided to become a combat nurse in Vietnam because a cute boy told her “woman can be heroes too” and then got cheated on by that same man later in the story.

So well written. A beautiful tragedy that leaves you feeling inspired and hopeful. Shed so many tears for this one.
