Beautifully written, Kristin Hannah has a remarkable ability to transport readers to another time in history. The book vividly portrays the struggles of a nurse during the Vietnam War and the inner battles faced by countless veterans upon returning home.

This book had me googling the Vietnam War while I was still listening to it and after finishing it. It had me asking my parents about what it was like to grow up in that era and wondering what family members may have served in that war. Needless to say the main characters story stuck with me. A great read.

4.25 ⭐️ | Enjoyed my time with this one, learned a lot about the contribution of nurses in Vietnam and the shocking dismissal of their service upon their return. Loved the female friendships. Felt the second half of the book dropped in pace and felt a little contrived perhaps. 🦋

Okay buckle up because I have THOUGHTS

Loved Frankie but girl, how do you go from not wanting to be a homewrecker with Jamie to being fine with sleeping with Rye before his “divorce” was finalized

LOVED Barb. Wish she had been our MC (I get why she wasn’t bc they needed to show Frankie’s struggle but still)

Felt like Finley’s death could have come a bit later like why’d it have to be the same day Frankie enlisted??

Rye should have stayed missing, the way I would have had him admitted into the same hospital his not-estranged wife was giving birth in. Just the stinkiest pile of trash.

The reveal that Jamie was still alive had me in tears (I was also walking through a veterans memorial during this part of the book which may have contributed to that)

Critiques aside, I’m so happy my mom kept pestering me into reading this, it’s my favorite of the year so far!
