Learned more about religion than work. Not sure how to wrap my head around the need for religion in the society as a non- religious person. Still a very interesting insight into how Silicon Valley operates to maximize its profitability.

The concept that work in tech requires devotion on par to religion is both horrifying and unfortunately rings true.

After recently leaving a job that provides the kind of perks described in this book, I can definitely see how the provision of lifestyle benefits warps the values associated with those benefits. Definitely a cautionary tale.

Primarily I found this book really espouses in open marketplace of values and ideas. Basically, if the work is the place where you get everything, then that stymies the power of competition to improve your life, just as if there were only one provider of services in the private sector, it would stymie competition and decrease the overall value for consumers. (Not that I think of folks espousing a religion as consumers.)
