I actually adored this book. It was well written and considering the genre, uniquely done. I highly recommend this if you want some angel YA modern-fantasy-romance with easily likeable characters.

Clara is part angel, she's know for a few years and knows that she will have a purpose to fulfil at some point. Clara's optimistic and loveable, and truly cares for her family and friends. Her journey doesn't involve finding out who she is, because she genuinely knows already.

When she finally gets shown part of her purpose, in the form of a vision, she and her family move across country in order for her to achieve her goal. She instantly forms a crush on the boy in her vision and this is only reinforced when she meets him on her first day of school.

One thing I did truly adore about this book was the way Clara never forgot those around her. Typically in these sorts of stories the main character makes a friend on the first day and they barely show up again. That isn't the case with Unearthly. Clara meets Wendy and they slowly become closer friends, and even when Clara starts to hang out with other people Wendy is still reasonably constant as a friend.

There is a love triangle, of sorts, but it is done in a way that feels kind of natural for a high school student. The insta-love Clara feels for Christian slowly disappears as the book progresses and she gets to know Tucker. I think this was a wonderful way to frame the romance between each of her options, with her obligation to Christian and her actual bond with Tucker.

I honestly adored this story, especially as I was waiting for the cliches that often come with YA books of this specific type and era, and they didn't really come. Clara's mother is utterly involved and loves her kids, Clara is actually a good friend and doesn't forget them in the process of finding her true purpose and love. Her friends seem to have her best interests at heart as well. And to top it off, both of her love interests actually act like human beings and individuals.
