Should be 3 1/2 stars. It really picked up at the end.

Ahh another Potter book down. This one was quite enjoyable. Nice twists and imagination. I was glad I read "The Girl on the Dock" before I read this book. Adds quite a bit of extra insights. Not nessessary but helpful.

In the 3rd book in the James Potter series, James and his family travel to the States because Harry (Potter) is traveling across the pond to help the American equivalent of the Aurors investigate and take down a group called W.U.L.F. This group claims to want to reveal the wizarding world to the world of muggles and has even gone so far as to kidnap an American politician. While the Potters are in the States, James and his brother and cousins continue their magical education at Alma Aleron, one of the schools of witchcraft and wizardry in the States. Ralph (who you should know by now, and if you don’t, go and read the first two books!) and his dad are also along for the ride, since Ralph’s dad has become something of a specialist in magical security involving muggles.

Things at Alma Aleron are slightly different than at Hogwarts. Instead of four houses, there are six – werewolves (no actual werewolves), zombies (formerly had a zombie), pixies (may have actual pixies), igors (no students named Igor), vampires (no real vampires…?), and bigfoots (which does have a bigfoot as a member). Each of the houses has it’s distinctive personality types, but instead of a Sorting Hat, there is a cat named Patches that offers advice as to which house the students should “rush” for. Yes, the students rush like college students rush for a fraternity or sorority and they can be rejected from their house of choice. If this happens, most often they are assigned a house by the administration of Alma Aleron, often by Ben Franklyn (no it is’t a typo, and if you don’t believe me and haven’t yet, go read the first two books!) himself, who is chancellor of the school.

I would rate this a 8 out of 10 for enjoyability (I kept wanting to read this book; it was difficult to put down at times) and a 2 out of 5 for readability.

Manages to add depth to the story line in an engaging way, and keeps adding more to explore.

At last, i finished this book! It took forever to actually come to the end. The third book of James Potter's adventure shows how every character grow especially James, Albus, Petra & Lucy. It become darker, complicated & confusing at certain point (at least to me).
This book contain the world that majority come from the author imagination including the world under water, New Amsterdam, Alma Aleron & the overall American world of magic community. This is a good turn which make the story different from Harry Potter series.
I enjoyed reading this 3rd book but only up till when the kids went 'dimension hopping', as Albus describe it. The pace of the earlier into the book kinda slow & very descriptive, i cant keep with the pace. I skipped a few pages to finished it.
Some people said it was kinda a cliffhanger ending but to me, it was perfect for me to actually look forward for the 4th book, if the author plan to write one.

This is to say, a fanfiction. Most people I think, this assume of it to be J.K. Rowling's new legacy. It will never amount even close to that. nothing ever will. I love to say that it comes pretty darn close but lets be real: No. Book. Will. Ever. Replace Harry. Potter.

But George Norman Lippart has a good thing going for him and the books are extremely addicting but what I don't like is the character's voices.I can't see the story from their eyes, I hear about it fantastically but I can't hop into the story. This isn't necessarily a bad thing just a low point. There wasn't a lot of showing more telling.

These were my thoughts directly after reading the book, I thought Petra was whiny,un-reliable, irresponsible. To be frank I was ready to label her as a 'Mary Sue'

My biggest issue with the book was How far Lippart's series was from my expectations.

One thing that threw me was James was the soft sensitive one, James and that James couldn't play quitich to save his life yet could play some sport on a flying surf board and football (soccer).

All these surprises and details, I admit kept me from enjoying the book as much as I had hoped.

Also, this isn't much of a valid point but in truth, the story is choppy. Like someone's just learning to ride a bike. sometimes they're really good then the wind turns and the get bucked head first into the dirt.
All of Lippart's character's don't stay the same the whole book. the start off as a stupid and useless character then in a matter or weeks they're all powerful, all knowing and undeniably wise. suddenly the next day they're back to lala-land. I get character development but There is no steady pattern.

To be truthful, Lippart is an okay author. Not extremely talented or anything but not a talentless troll either. A good book, one of his best in my opinion. I look foward to reading the next in the series coming out July 7th if I'm not mistaken.

Over all a great read dispite all my complaining I did enjoy reading this book. Lippart tends to be a little dark in his writing so 11-12 and up (may vary for your own taste and experience.)If it was a movie I would be some where around PG13.
