Shanghai Story is my first book by Alexa Kang – and let's just say that it was an interesting read.

We are introduced to Eden – a Jewish refugee in the World War II era, with Clark Yuan – a Chinese. The story itself was incredibly entertaining and it captured my attention from the moment that I started reading the book. The journey that both Eden and Clark have to go through is one of intensity. With all of the turmoil that happened during that time – it was actually refreshing to hear and read about it in such a way.

I definitely enjoyed the character development that was carried, as well as the storyline. I would definitely consider this a 4 Star Book!

Shanghai Story: A WWII Drama Trilogy by Alexa Kang is the first book in the trilogy. I love reading historical fiction because there is usually a good story that goes with learning a bit about history. This story is set in Shanghai and tells the story of Clark and Eden. Clark has been in school in America and has come home and wants to make his country a better place. Eden is a Jewish refugee whose family has found their way to China. The two are good characters and get drawn into each other's lives. I found the story interesting. I have always had an interest in this time period and the setting is different from many novels. At times I felt drawn in and could imagine where the characters were located. I enjoyed this novel and am looking forward to seeing where the story leads.

Shanghai Story: A WWII Drama Trilogy Book 1
By Alexa Kang
4 stars

This is the first book that I have read by this author and it isn’t the usual style of book that I read, however the author did such an amazing job with the story that I really enjoyed it. Her use of descriptive language about the setting was outstanding – it definitely enabled me to envisage what I was reading. My interest was definitely kept as I travelled through WWII following the love of a couple, Eden and Clark, it was great to read something with a different perspective of the war. I actually feel like I learnt something as well from reading this story! I will definitely be looking forward to the next book in the trilogy and I can’t wait to immerse myself into this authors beautiful story lines.

This is my first book by this author and I enjoyed how she was able to take me on a journey of love, hope and loss. She took me on a journey of a roller coaster ride through one couples love in WWII. These characters are connectable and relatable. They were able to make me feel as if I was right there with them and easy to follow. The facts about WWII were interesting and added to the story to keep it engaging. I highly suggest this book as you just may see WWII as a different perspective.

Epic historical fiction! Hands down an absolutely riveting page turner. I love this genre and was so glad this book found its way into my hands. Engaging from page one you will have a hard time putting this one down and walking away before reading the story in its entirety. Alexa Kang is a new author to me and I look forward to reading more from this author and series. Two thumbs up!
