helllll yeah, we love a seasoned author who actually researches history for their fantasy writing.
i feel like the majority of the fantasy genre is split between dense, historically rich, thousand-paged tomes, which are also boring, racist, imperialist, and misogynistic as fuck, vs. grown up ao3 girlies who have hot monster men situated in aesthetic, nonsensical kingdoms, which at best, is campy and not that serious, but at its worst, is derivative and formulaic, not to mention frequently racist, imperialist, and ALSO misogynistic as fuck.
every once in a while, i find a gem of a fantastical, based, well-written, well-researched, telling of a tale. i love a good tale <3
who gives a fuck if it wasn't "adult" enough to be marketed as an adult novel? what does "adult" even meannn?
also i literally lovedddd sideways stories from wayside school. i'm reading it right now for a middle grade book group i run, and i'm CACKLING.
