Tout ça à cause d'un chien 😂 Lily est clairement pas la meilleure des amies. Quand n'est-elle pas insupportable ? Alors que Michael est (presque) toujours parfait ❤️

DELIGHTFUL. Also highly problematic in some instances. 2004 as a wild year.

📚#14 in My Meg Cabot Read Through
Princess in Pink is the fifth entry in The Princess Diaries. It's a step up from the previous entry Princess in Waiting, improving on the tone and plot structure. I would also say it's one of my favorite entries of the series. Spoilers follow! Don't read past this paragraph if you want to be completely surprised.

In this entry, Mia Thermopolis wants nothing more than to go to Prom with her boyfriend, Michael Moscovitz. She's hesitant to ask him since you know girls don't typically do that. However, when she gets up the pluck to talk about it, she finds out that he thinks it's lame! [LOL] Meanwhile,  Grandmère causes a scene at Mia's birthday dinner thanks to her pet poodle, resulting in the firing of a busboy named Jangbu. Mia's best friend Lilly Moscovitz becomes obsessed with Jangbu, leading to an eventual citywide boycott and her break-up with long-time boyfriend Boris Pelkowski.

Mia's usual insecurity didn't annoy me like in the previous book. Not knowing how to approach her boyfriend about prom and being unsure how to bring it up again once he calls prom lame. I find that completely understandable, especially being fourteen going on fifteen. I actually thought that it was a bit strange that Michael didn't assume that Mia would want to go to prom. Like he should know this about his girlfriend, right? I loved how Mia solved the not-going-to-prom-thing and in the process finally admitted to Michael how important it is to her. That's some character growth actually.

After this book, I'm completely convinced Lilly is a narcissistic psychopath. Or maybe just a huge BITCH, because I shouldn't be diagnosing fictional characters. To break up with your boyfriend by french kissing another boy that's beyond me. Other than that, I just dislike her pretentiousness with her so-called "cause" with the busboy protest. Excuse me, you're a privileged white girl living in MANHATTAN for god's sake. It's refreshing to see her get her comeuppance at the end when she realizes that she still loves Boris but he's dating Tina Hakim Baba now HAHAHA. Also, thank god, Mia doesn't put up with Lilly's behavior and even tells that Tina has been a better friend to her lately. Lilly is a very interesting character to me. While I greatly dislike her, I appreciate seeing a character with good and bad traits being portrayed for what she is.

In conclusion, Princess in Pink is full of references to Pretty in Pink, hilarious moments with Grandmère invading Mia's loft, prom dreams coming true, a new out-of-the-box couple, a citywide wide service persons' protest, and the birth of Mia's half-brother Rocky. Yes named after that Rocky. What else can I say? I love this book.

I feel like these books perfectly capture the mind of a teenage girl. Yes, Mia's a little self-centered and bratty, but what teenage girl isn't? Love these books <3
