Prom! Prompromprom! Mia's boyfriend, Michael, is a senior, so Mia is all geared up to be one of the few freshmen who are invited to that most important of teenage traditions, the PROM! Only...Michael hasn't asked her, yet. And it's, like, a week away. And also, all of New York City is now in turmoil as busboys and waiters and what seems like every service worker goes on strike following the firing of a restaurant worker, due to an incident involving Mia's Grandmere and her dog. Will Michael ask Mia to prom? Will Grandmere fess up to her crime? Will New Yorkers ever be able to get a decent food delivery again?

This book does a lot to highlight the importance of communication in romantic relationships, which is very nice to see addressed in teen novels, when so many problems could be avoided by talking. Of course, we only learn this because the talking doesn't happen, at first, and Mia will learn this lesson many more times in the series, but Cabot tries, and it's appreciated.

We also see some of Mia's budding sexuality, here. From here on in the series, it gets a bit more serious each release, and this volume make sure to include not only Mia's thoughts on early aspects of being physical, but her mother's frankness regarding sex, and in particular her encouragement of Mia to obtain contraceptives. A great message for all teens, regardless of if they plan on being sexually active or not.

This was alright. To me, Mia was a little annoying throughout, only going on about how she wishes Michael would ask her to prom. She kept wining and worrying about it

Michael still is best boyfriend! He hates proms but still will go for Mia. Clarise and Hellens interactions, also pregnant Hellen in general 🤣

oh. A whole book about Mia wanting to go to prom. yippee.

Mia's birthday celebration with Grandmère does not go like intended leading to a service worker being fired. Lilly protests for this unfair firing, finds herself crushing on this boy only to lose her boyfriend. The protest blows up turning into a nationwide strike leading to Mia's dream prom being cancelled (not that she was invited yet :D) .
Loved how this book ended and was glad at Grandmère's gesture got once.

I really hate every single book in this series--they all read like an idle 1997 IM chat session between two 13 year-olds. No matter how old Mia gets it's still the same tone, no growth or maturity.

I hate every single book in this series.

It is not worth your time, and it is well below Cabot's level of skill.
