If there is one thing I have taken from both “A thousand ships” and “Elektra” it is that Cassandra deserved more. Her death by Clytemnestra was of mercy.
What else I take from Elektra is that Agamemnon was always cruel and the war made him worse. The curse of House Atreus does have something to do with it, and for me it ended with Elektra. She as well was cursed to bloodshed. She just had people to do it for.
Either way I loved this book and I also hated it because I could see the point of views from both sides.
Clytemnestra was crushed and Iphigenia was murdered by her own father. This was more than a ritual. Iphigenia herself was betrayed by her father, for a fair wind, Clytemnestra was lied to, ridiculed and without knowing feeding lies to her first born. As much as she tried to intervene when the sacrifice happened there must have been a part of her still thinking she was to blame. At least that’s my final thoughts.
It is a must read, especially for the way all the women and their thoughts and actions are portrayed.

It is fair to say that I am currently experiencing a slump and I can’t quite gauge if this book has something to do with it or my review is because my slump is making me grumpy but… I struggled. It’s taken me days to read this when I was truly expecting to be addicted immediately. Again those high expectations may be my issue.
