This sequel was a rollercoaster! And not necessarily in a good way. There were times it was hard to read. I loved the angst between them, most of the time.
Cal was such a deep, complex character but I found myself bored with some of Lucy’s chapters in this book. I would have preferred for both povs to be included in both stories, not just this one.
That being said, I liked the first one much better. There were too many twists and turns, on and off again moments in my opinion. But, I did love all of the emphasis on mental health and grief and how things came full circle in the end

Really liked the first book, but this one fell flat for me.

I'm just going to be completely honest and admit that I didn't love this one. A devastating realization since I love this author's writing.
This picks up where the first book left off. Any character development we had in the first book, feels like it is tossed in the garbage. I LOVED Cal's character in the first book. This book, not so much. He still had his moments of dry humor, like when he catches a cold but mostly he's just unlikable in this book.
Lucy isn't much better. She lacks any backbone whatsoever and when her mother discusses her heart condition with Cal, we learn that Lucy is not only overly dramatic but irresponsible as well. Even worse is the secret she keeps from Cal for 6 months, even when she learns that he resents his mother for what Lucy is hiding.
Overall, the banter is enjoyable and there are events that are well written. My biggest complaint is that I just didn't like the characters or their actions in most situations and when comparing this to the author's other books, this one was just a miss.
