I liked how the author was able to tell the story of this family from the perspective of all of its members without it being burdensome or overly complicated. Haddon really took the reader into the heads of each character so that you experienced the turmoil of each one as they did. Well done, and enjoyable.

While you might be tempted to say this is a book where nothing happens, again the narrative voice of Mark Haddon, through the different characters, gives this novel just the right tone it needs at the various points of the story. A little bit "About Schmidt" and a little bit "Seinfeld".

This was a nice light, quick read. Very short chapters, which I like, as I often read whilst travelling etc. and I dislike stopping in the middle of a chapter (a bit of an autistic tendency of mine). Somehow I read a lot quicker when the chapters are short too, is that just me? I don't know why that is. A funny, sweet family comedy/drama.

I'd give this 3.5 stars if I could. A slow start that builds up to a laugh out loud novel. Very British - class issues, etc. Sympathy for his characters. Not on par with "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime" but a good read. Or maybe I'm just relating to 61 year olds who worry about the future!

Started and finished date - 30.01.25 to 01.02.25.
My rating - three Stars.
This book was okay read but bit boring and the cover of book was simple but stunning. Both the writing and the paced of plot was okay. The atmosphere was okay and the the ending of the book was fine. The characters was okay but I would have like them flash out bit more.

Love. This book is hysterically funny despite very serious and real subject matter. I enjoyed every page; a quick read.

This book made me laugh out loud - several times - and that might seem odd considering the storyline is of George who has found a lesion on his hip that he has determined is cancer. But the story is written so fabulously well, charting this mixed up, dysfunctional family and George's separation from sanity that I laughed and smiled in sympathy, instead of crying. I'd have given this 4 stars but am being a little mean as I wasn't content with the ending, it left me flat, although I understand the reason for it being as it is. Read it, remind yourself to live!

I generally enjoy comedic books but rarely place them among my favorites. This is an exception. I haven't read it since I did my senior seminar thesis on it at Houghton. It remains just as entertaining, just as poignant, and just as thought-provoking as it did then. One not to be missed.
