I am a Nellie Wilson stan!
These books are exactly what I like - normal people, doing normal things and falling in love.
To paraphrase 10 Things I Hate About You:
I (really) like Curated, but I love Educated.
Pheobe and Dec were great characters and I’m here for the bi rep.
I found some of the writing repetitive, but that’s what happens with a will they/won’t they so I’m rounding this up from the 4.5 I give it.

4.5 Rounded Up. I felt so fortunate to receive an advanced copy of this highly anticipated romance between two beloved characters in this fictional world Nellie has created, everyone’s best friend Phoebe and the broody bartender Declan.
There were so many things I loved about this book - it was so soft and low-angst and felt like revisiting my favorite college bar to hang out with Dec & Phoebes. First, the inner monologues of both Phoebe and Declan were so relatable (I mean, it is a millennial love story…). I especially admired how Phoebe gained confidence to speak up for herself (in the workplace and in her personal life) and with how Declan came to realize his value as a friend and partner. The romance felt super realistic and natural, even with the dynamics of taking a friendship to a romantic relationship within an existing friend group. Plus - the nickname?! Get out of here with that ooey gooey sweetness. And, even though this was the first time I’ve read an STI test on page, I genuinely hope it’s not the last and that it’s a trend that catches on in romance because consent and transparency are so important. I loved all the little teasers to future books and can’t wait to read what Nellie writes next!
Thank you to the author for the advanced copy!

Declan and Phoebe are my beautiful and chaotic bi disasters as we bisexuals almost always are. And also Millennials? Our struggles are endless and Nellie knows it! Her stories are always realistic and it is such a breath of fresh air to see a couple talk about sex and have good communication. It feels like we are taking a look in their life and just following them on that journey and not like watching some near impossible fairytale play out. Once again - refreshing! I saw a lot of myself in Phoebe and her insecurities and not asking for what I want especially in the workplace. Declan was such a sweetheart and as Phoebe said it - everyone should have a Dec in their lives! It was so nice to see the characters we read about before and it is impossible to be without them because Phoebe's friends play a huge role in her life.
This is honestly a 3.5 read for me but I am putting off rating it yet because I feel it is a me thing and not a book thing. Like, I felt it dragged on at times and there was no real conflict (I like no conflict between characters but like almost nothing happens idk but then again maybe I was at that stage mentally where I needed a bit of something) and the constant mentions of Phoebe smoking weed gave me the ick. Like once or twice yes okay, she is neurodivergent, and I guess it helps? But it was mentioned in almost every chapter and there are A LOT of chapters.

2.5⭐️ rounded up. I WANT to like Nellie Wilson’s books but I just can’t quite get there. Honesty, I kind of fall asleep reading them.

Phoebe is that person who is always making the lives of those around her better but sometimes at the sacrifice of her happiness - in love, friendship, and work. But, she always has her favorite seat at a little hidden bar just off campus and the opportunity to chat with the bar’s owner Declan. Dec has spent the last six years pining for Phoebe. One day Phoebe decides to take something for herself and asks Dec to be her “friend-with-benefits” to help her gain experience in the bedroom. But what happens when two friends who secretly love each other try to keep things strictly physical?
This is definitely not a stand-alone book. I firmly believe you should read Need S’More Time and Curated before Educated. The timeline of this book overlaps Curated, and Nellie was able to shorthand a lot of the character development in this book because of how much was done in previous books. Because of that, she’s able to jump right into the plot and the characters but you may think the characters are underdeveloped (they are not) unless you know the backstory from previous books.
I adore this world she has created. All the characters are real - nerdy, messy, complicated, flawed, and full of tenderness. Like Curated, I enjoy that the male main character isn’t perfect. He is insecure and looking for his place in the world. It was fantastic to see all of the characters from the previous books reunited and supporting each other. Fundamentally, these books work because you can tell how much Nellie cares about the characters and treats them with respect.
