Pleasantly surprised!
Sometimes you gotta read a book about 3 morally-gray women who eat people (unwillingly) and struggle against their overwhelming desires for power, whether that be over a kingdom or a person. This also includes a slightly (mostly?) toxic 3-way wlw. Go gays!
I enjoyed this a lot. I liked each character (Ser Voyne, Treila, and Phosyne), but I didn't love them. Their characterizations shifted back and forth a little too much in short moments. Alas. I am very happy they all survived because each character had a perfect opportunity to die for the plot. The demons were interesting, but there were some parts that left me so confused. I'm thinking that was the point, not fully to understand the demons, but some parts I would've enjoyed to be clearer.
Also!! This has way more dark-souls vibes than many other silly book recs. I found this one by myself!

Don’t ask me a single thing about this book because I won’t be able to tell you. I swear my brain was on another planet the entire time I was reading this

What more can I actually say? I love this book.
I love how all things unravelled, characters, relations, saints, cannibalism, just all the things!
I savoured it, I didn't know I was starving for this book until I started reading (pun intended)
It is intense, a little crazy and there are people eating each other (just so you know), so keep reading y'all!

"They deserve salvation, not merely an extension of their suffering."
As a medievalism lover, this horror book inspired in the medieval times is exactly what I needed. We have a sieged castle, a female knight longing for permission to help her people, a madwoman with a desire to just be left alone, a woman looking for revenge and some mysterious creatures that appear to be Saints coming to help the poor people from the castle who are actively dying of starvation. Or are they?
This book creates such a confusing atmosphere that perfectly reflects what the characters are living at the moment. Half of the time I was very confused and despite the writing being beautiful sometimes it is hard to keep track of what is going on.
This was so sensual, so gruesome, and so sad at the same time. I had moments of pure disgust while reading some passages. The relationship between Ser Voyne, Treila and Phosyne is so complicated but magnetic at the same time due to the plot being so heavy I started thinking that I was reading a tragedy.
This will not be for everyone but for those who are interested in horror, lgbtq+ characters and canibalism, this is the book for you.
"But the hunger that I am holds this castle up. The hunger that they are would tear it away from you. The hunger that you feel would lead you to victory."
