A horrifically splendid and descriptive fever dream of a novel. I was bemused for the majority of my time reading this, but taking time to reflect and consider the rhetorical devices, as I did in my high school AP English days, proved to bolster the reading and entertainment experience. The variation of perspectives, along with incredibly detailed, yet ambiguous prose made for a story that will stick with me for a long time. As someone who doesn’t usually like gore and body horror, the balance of this with psychologically complex and thrilling moments creates a unique environment for readers to explore and ponder these feelings towards their own bodies and lived experiences. Love, love, loved this story and will be recommending to anyone who’s looking for a confusingly beautiful book.

I wanted to like this book so badly. This has some of my favorite horror concepts (strange visitors, memory and perception manipulation) but the execution did not land for me.
The suspense was lacking and even the grotesque imagery did much to make me feel moved or invested. The pov characters are all interesting but there is one that feels very disconnected to the other two and I feel like it takes away from suspense what the others giveTreila's pov. She's not a bad character. I actually really liked her but her storyline and her entanglement with the loving saint feels out of place next to Voyne and Phosyne's battle to not lose themselves. Also knowing that she exists gutted any suspense of if Phosyne was talking to herself and was truly mad or if Voyne's perception of reality was truly controlled by the Constant lady. .
The saints also feel too human too quickly. I don't mind inhuman characters feeling human or showing emotions but it felt like we barely got to feel how alien they truly were untilwe found out that the Constant Lady and the Loving saint were jealous. Nevermind that we barely got any sense of character from the other two
All in all great ideas, well written character but the overall execution and suspense writing was really lacking
