Loved this book from start to finish. It’s like I got to know myself better through Clare’s sharing of her experiences. I’m ready to tell my own Frank to F off now too.

Look, this probably verges on a 4.5 star rating and I really did like it, but I exclusively give my 5 stars to those books that I finish and immediately return to the start to read more of it again, just to delay my post-book-blues. In 'Your Own Kind of Girl', Clare Bowditch said everything I needed her to and more, and the conclusion of this memoir was so satisfying and neat that I didn't need to start rereading, I just needed to source some flour to be able to cook Oma's apple pie.....

I grew up listening to Claire Bowditch (and her cameo on Offspring made me love her even more)
This is an important biography that I’ll get my niece to listen to when she’s a bit older. It tells the brutal story of negative self-worth, the importance of looking after yourself and also shows how important it is to follow your dreams, no matter what “Frank” says.
I listened to the audiobook and loved that she narrated her story, my favourite parts were that I could hear her smile as she talked and the real emotion when she was talking about a difficult part.
I was worried that it would be too hard listening to 11 hours of such a heavy, dark story (imagine living with it everyday!) but about halfway through it became more hopeful.

This book hit me like a ton of bricks. I didn't know I needed to hear some of these hard truths until I was already crying into the pages. Stunning.

Having an apple pie recipe in the mental health resources section is an actual game-changer.
