The ending was a bit anticlimactic, but this novella still devastated me.

So much to love about this trilogy, including the unique universe, characters, and cultures described. I would have liked to give this final chapter 5 stars, except for the fact that the ending does meander a bit. I feel like some of the details toward the end could have been left out for a more powerful, impactful ending.

This third installment highlighted an issue that's been growing since the first book, but really comes to the fore here. Binti's character is confusing and inconsistent to me. I'm finding it harder and harder to connect with her.
As an allegory or a symbol, the character of Binti has a lot of merit. As a teenager amidst serious trauma and world-altering realizations, events, and consequences she didn't make sense.
Still loved the bit about space fish ships though, and I was very happy to have more of that in this installment. Even if it was part of a ridiculously convenient plot twist for a "happy" ending.

I really did like this book and the directions it went, but for the first time in this series I truly felt like Binti's story needed far more pages to be told effectively. There was so much happening and while I felt like the story points were clear and laid out, there was very little time for introspection or character relations or thematic elements. Everything felt very fast, and while I understand that that was kind of the point, I still think this could've used another 50 or so pages at the very least to not feel like a constant sprint to the finish line for the entire book.
