Disgusting, disturbing, unforgettable. Palahniuk's collection of horror short stories is notorious for being responsible for 73 different fainting incidents at readings of the story "Guts". The collection is terrifying, hilarious, and deeply twisted. It is the kind of book that you may want to block from memory when you finally complete it. By the conclusion, you are in some ways a different person perhaps not a better one than when you began it and this is what Palahniuk sets out to achieve.

This one was definitely messed up, but I knew that going in. C’mon, it’s the author of Fight Club. Of course it’s messed up. It’s so messed up, even I almost gave up after the pool story. It’s gross, offensive, vile, disgusting, and does not have a happy ending. And I loved it.
Yeah. I’m warped.
Yeah. I’m warped.
The personal short stories were interesting and strong, but the present day interactions with the characters stretched a bit. It was a bit difficult to keep track of all the characters as well. However, with that being said, I think the book was fascinating and original, full of wonderfully disgusting stories that I never would have imagined on my own.
It was fine, the horror elements were pretty good but there was a lot of annoying stuff in this story. The whole main story couldve been scrapped honestly. I don’t care about it even a little bit and the metaphor it’s playing out is very tired and obvious. Would’ve loved this book if it was half as long and just a straight up anthology of gross stories!
