Weird.
Chuck Palahniuk again did what he does well, you think you're disgusted by the content of the book, the blood and bodily fluids and the details surrounding them but if you really settle into this book, you'll realize that human nature is what is disgusting you. This roundabout way is what Palahniuk does so well. I wouldn't recommend this for your first Palahniuk book but it's a good one.

haunted is not just trauma and shock for the sake of trauma and shock. it explores the deepest parts of the human psyche and what can happen if the dark parts are left unchecked. the group are so blinded by their own desperate need to come up with a million dollar story that they will simply put themselves through hell and back to do so.

I don’t know if the transphobia was supposed to be self aware satire but it really didn’t land. Didn’t care about any of the characters. Constant shocks just for the hell of it with no real point. Got 60% through but couldn’t finish.

ya that wasn’t good. The book peaked early with ‘guts’ and never got better. echoing other’s critiques of this book, I’ll also say that this book read like an edgelord trying to say something profound. chuck’s writing voice is profoundly insufferable
