My Soul to Save further expands upon the universe Vincent created in My Soul to Take in an interesting and believable way. I appreciate Vincent's incorporation of well known real-life events like the downfalls of teen celebrities in the mid-2000s and think that aspect of the plot works. That being said, this book just didn't hold my attention as well as the first in the series.

I don't think My Soul to Save is especially worse than My Soul to Take in any specific aspect, but it doesn't have the same sparkle. I have a couple of theories about the reason behind this. While the world is further expanded (and actually pretty intriguing), the characters are fairly stagnant. Kaylee and Nash still have no personalities, and I found myself far more interested in the supporting characters (basically any of the reapers).

Vincent also introduced some parental conflict in this book with Kaylee's dad trying to reintegrate himself into her life in the form of the overbearing-parent. I wouldn't mind this if it were more fleshed out or brought development to their father-daughter relationship, but it just ends up serving as generic extra conflict fueled by miscommunication and stereotypes.

Will I continue on with the series? Probably? But I'm in no rush to do so. I'll take my time and see how I feel.
