A brilliant narrative. Not so much a discussion of his thought, but of his times and how they influenced his thought. Might just be me, but it was kind of funny at moments too. I would pay good money for more, longer biographies of philosophers in this vein.
As always with this series an excellent grounding from an expert who really knows their stuff. It gives valuable insights into the context and motivations of Machiavelli, providing one reading that gives much food for thought. A great place to start...

A great and short overview of Machiavelli and his writings. Strongly recommended for anyone who is doing study on this titan of political thought. This book does a good job of showing the context in which Machiavelli wrote his famous works as well as explaining the background that he came from and how it affected him.
Skinner offers a solid, simple introduction to Machiavelli’s major works.
