It's exceptionally rare for a scholar of Calvin's caliber to have such depth of pastoral warmth and practical wisdom. This book is worth reading and rereading. This particular translation is also very readable (it even uses contractions!) and accessible to the average person. If a person would read only one thing from Calvin, this would be my recommendation.

This little book is an excerpt from Calvin’s Institutes and, per the introduction, it is a fresh and accurate translation. Calvin breaks down in the simplest terms God’s call on the Christian’s life, how it is revealed through the scripture, how to answer that call in obedience and how to do so in times of plenty as well as want. Recommended.

First of all, this book is beautiful! I almost avoided scribbling on it. Almost. This short book can be read in one day and has no waste. It's very simple, yet very profound. It led me to meditate, laugh, pray, and share passages with people around me. Like the back cover reads, this is "a Christian classic for every believer." I'll definitely be coming back to it!

This is a book that I will reread for years to come! So many good truths packed into a short lil book.

An excellent book on the temporary life we live as we prepare for eternity. This book was so encouraging and practical!
