I think it's time I accepted the fact that I'll never be the biggest fan of hard scifi - I hardly ever care a lot about the science part of things. This had a really great start, then it got supremely boring during the middle of it and it finally picked up again at the end. I might continue on with the series, but I'm not 100% sure of that yet.

I have a feeling that the recent film Ad Astra was inspired by this, at least a little. This novel brings a sort of hyper-realism to the scifi feeing of settling another planet. It’s a very believable and incredibly detailed (I don’t know how the author knows so much, it’s wild). I would definitely recommend a read through, because it has important themes like greed, personal freedom, mental health, environmentalism, morality, and a lot more. It’s a deep book actually.

The world building and writing is very interesting although it is difficult to read. The science is a nice touch and has lots of accurate descriptions/guesses with a few that seemed like a bit of a stretch too. At times the book did drag on and move at a very slow pace though.
