When We Were Friends

I liked the beginning of the story, the intense friendship between the two characters. I thought the friendship would become too intense or the characters would become manipulative and the story would be a bit more sinister which I was hoping for but instead it became more preachy about the importance of loving yourself which I didn't like very much.

Quick short story about a friendship gone wrong. This story is more about the importance of mental health and growth than the friendship portrayed. Seeing the main character's growth and healing is inspiring. Good read.

This short story was ok. It came across a bit simplistic and “easy” to me to be honest.

What a delightful and unexpected short story!

The emotion that Green is able to pack into such a short read is extremely enjoyable. This quick read is impactful, entertaining, and the perfect length for a sweet read.

Lucy feels like she's recovering from her divorce well and when she meets Elle they connect instantly. Yes, Elle is younger, but they have similar passions and quickly become enmeshed in each others lives. But as they start attending larger social events with other people a crack in their friendship and an even deeper betrayal is revealed. Will their new friendship be able to survive?

The line "I don't think I can have someone in my life who's even capable of treating people the way you treated me" really resonated me with regards to what can happen when friendships go awry.
