Not bad writing, just not really a book for me. I could see this one being made into a made for TV movie on Lifetime lol.
challenging dark emotional funny tense fast-paced

My first short story 💃 A mere 44 pages that was estimated to take no longer than an hour to read.

I enjoyed this short story for the characters it developed, the story it provided, and the messages I took away hidden through out.

Being a divorcee, I can relate to the complete shift from identifying much of yourself in connection to your partner to than having no partner. That shifting dynamic back to the roots of who you are without another. Who you always have been, but maybe it got muddled or lost when in a marriage.

I think the connection between Elle and Lucy is intoxicating to say the least. That instant spark with another human. Especially post divorce, finding a gal pal that you’re so in sync with feels good. However, most people are known to put their best self forward at the beginning of any relationship, as Lucy learns.

I think this short story beautifully takes the reader through loss of self in marriage, identity issues during divorce, and diminished standards when one feels their lowest.

"When We Were Friends" by Jane Green is a short novel about the complexities of friendship, trust, and self-discovery. This book was hard to rate in my opinion. It’s a super quick, engaging read, which I could easily see it as a full-length novel which could be why I'm torn with rating. I could see this novel diving deeper into even more twists and turns surrounding Elle's true nature.

In the story, Lucy, who is recovering from her divorce, forms an instant bond with Elle, a younger woman who she met in the bar bathroom! What seemed like an instant BFF situation, she seemed to share all her passions - but as their friendship grows, Lucy starts to notice troubling signs in Elle's behavior.

What was Elle hiding... See for yourself!

I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this story had me reading straight through to the end! Good female friendships are HARD to make as an adult and keep strong, so some of the challenges in this story were relatable. There were some red flags and weird things that developed in their friendship, but I see the message about how that can be hard to spot when it’s happening to you. While I wouldn’t likely be friends with Elle, I’d love to make a friend like Lucy!

I didn’t realize this was a short story before starting. Cute quick read about friendship.
Even though it ended with Elle being horrible, I absolutely relate to the intoxicating thrill and love of a new best friend that you just click with.

This book is an Amazon short that I received from Amazon first reads last year some time.

Thought I would give it a shot. This story was just ok, and I assumed what was going to happen a few pages in. It was predictable. The ending was nice, though.

Boring shorth story with and an even more boring plot twist (not at all like the promised blurb)
