Fascinating book with a lot of really interesting ideas. Some places I was in 100% agreement with More; others I was less so. But in either case, the utopia that he describes was a fascinating one, and this was not only an easily-readable, but also a thought-provoking read.

hmmmm socialism...

Had er meer van verwacht.

Mostly good, but I also skipped a lot about trade deals and military tactics because I just don't care. Had a kinda Le Guin feel to it. Enjoyed book 1 more than book 2 to be honest, which had a lot of evergreen (ie still true 500 years on) stuff about class warfare.

overall review:
‧₊˚ of all the books i’ve read this class (utopian literature) this was by far my least favorite. this was incredibly hard for me to understand. there was maybe one point in this book that i had an idea of what was going on. it wasn’t until i read the same page over 4 or 5 times that i was understanding the utopian ideal being presented. though this is considered the original “utopian” book, i think there are others that far better demonstrate a utopian society, such as walden two by b.f. skinner- which i enjoyed a lot more than this.

A really enjoyable reflective read. Easy to digest, thought-provoking and in places still highly satirical. I would recommend to everyone.

Sadly it was not what I was expecting. I almost fell asleep reading the introduction when we meet the "characters" and stuff. And I say "characters" but this is a non-fiction book disguised as a fiction book so there are not really any characters or a plot. This is a political essay about what Thomas More thought would be a perfect country or civilisation. And that part was not that bad, I found some interesting concepts and the authors really goes into detail about almost every single aspect of this country. It's like reading a Wikipedia page about any real country in the world, the book even has different sections talking about religion, trading, leisure, etc. But meh, I was expecting something more than just a political dissertation.
