This book felt like a modern day The Bell Jar mixed in with a kook of a psychiatrist.

The unnamed protagonist has a serious bout of depression despite being a well off beautiful woman with the world at her fingertips living in Manhattan. Her upbringing makes it inherently difficult to feel joy and happiness.

She slips down a medicated rabbit hole for a year. A deep deep rabbit hole.

Her point of view is rather bleak but can be super satirical and comical at times.

I enjoyed it but will need to read something on the fluffier side to counteract the effects of this book.

I can see this being a polarizing book. I ended up finishing it quite quickly so it definitely sucked me in.
I haven't decided if I liked it or not yet.

An enjoyable read just because it was so funny to read a privileged white woman spend a year sleeping and sleepwalking đź’€ the psychiatrist was easily my favorite character bc who in the hell gave her a degree LMAO. justice for Reva though

Absolutely batshit insane take on depression and trauma in the modern age coupled with medication and disordered thinking.
Did not find a singular character remotely likeable and did consider giving this book 3 stars because of the ending (because frankly, I hated it).
The notion that the self-destructive behaviour of the main character ended up essentially working for her after the author spends hundreds of pages building up the clear idea of it being utterly insane is.. kind of brilliant? and frustrating..
I’m not 100% sure how I feel except that the imagery of ilness the author created was captivating enough to keep me gripped throughout the book.
Also the way Reva was treated by the narrator throughout is appaling and no doubt illustrates the isolating aspect of depression.
