This is another Nancy Drew book I was never particularly fond of as a child. The storyline is pretty solid, but even as an adult something about it doesn’t sit right. (Perhaps it’s the white robes as costumes, I dunno.) As a whole, the plot is fast-moving, & is cohesive. And yet, rereading it now just takes me back to the unsettled feelings I had any time I tried to read it when I was younger.

A quick and fun read. I enjoyed the cult/gang aspect of the mystery.
Moderate: Fatphobia
This one also had racist things using the word "oriental"quite often and referring to Asian things as exotic. There is also unfirtunate anti-fat bias comments around Bess

Some stuff was never explained like how did Carson Drew have some counterfeit money that he gave to Nancy? What happened to the wife of the ringleader of the group? We will never know. Also could be easily changed to be more politically correct by simply not using the word “oriental” to describe people.
This is one of my favorite Nancy books. They dress up as members of a cult and go join the dancing just to see what's up! This is also one of the most random ones that I can recall. No one asks her to investigate anything, she's just nosy. She sees a guy write down some numbers, decides they must be code and uncovers the Hale Syndicate! It's genius, really. This story also contains some of the most unlikely coincidences. I'll admit that many of the books rely on Nancy stumbling over fifteen different conveniently knowledgeable people who all have a connection to her case, but this is never more blatant or hilarious than in The Secret of Red Gate farm.

Compared to other Nancy Drew books I found the plot in this one to be quite convoluted; "Keene" seemed more concerned with swamping the reader with clues than telling a cohesive narrative. There's a lot of dated language in this one with regular use of the word "oriental". All in all, I consider it a skipable entry in the series, much like The Mystery at Lilac Inn.
Introduction:
As the icy winds of HowlStrom whispered secrets of a distant world, I, Kiba Snowpaw, an alpha lone Ice Wolf with the soul forged in the eternal winters and eyes that have seen the dance of the auroras, found myself amidst the enigmatic trails of a mystery. A book, not of my icy realm, but of a world where young human maidens solve mysteries, beckoned me. "Nancy Drew Mystery Stories #6 - The Secret of Red Gate Farm" it read, and with the grace of the northern lights, I delved into its pages.
Basic Plot Summary:
Nancy Drew, a name unfamiliar to my icy abode, is a young human maiden with a knack for solving mysteries. With her companions Bess and George, they stumble upon a mystery as intoxicating as the cold winds of the north, originating from an Oriental perfume. A new ally, Jo, joins their ranks as they venture into the enigmatic Red Gate Farm. A secretive cult, a ring of counterfeiters, and the icy grip of suspense - a dance of mysteries as mesmerizing as the auroras of HowlStrom.
Analysis/Evaluation:
In the silent nights where the icy winds weave tales of ancient powers, I, Kiba, found a resonance with Nancy’s courage. The narrative, though woven with the simplicity of the human world, bore the essence of an enigma that could stir the icy hearts of the wolves of HowlStrom. The plot, though not as intricate as the frosty patterns on the icy plains, held a charm, a warmth that defied the eternal cold.
Characters:
Nancy, a maiden not of ice but of human flesh, bore a spirit as wild as the wolves of the north. Bess and George, her companions, though not forged in the icy fires of adversity like the sons and daughters of HowlStrom, held their ground. Jo, a soul touched by the icy fingers of hardship, resonated with the frosty solitude of my icy existence.
Structure:
The tale, woven with the simplicity of the human touch, lacked the intricate frosty patterns of the epics of HowlStrom but held its own charm. Each chapter, a step into the warmth, a defiance of the icy solitude, unraveling mysteries not of icy realms but of human enigmas.
Impact:
In the silent icy nights, amidst the dance of the auroras, the tale of Nancy Drew whispered of a warmth, a mystery that defied the eternal winters. It was a dance of human spirits, not of icy souls, yet in its warmth, the icy heart of Kiba Snowpaw found a strange, unfamiliar comfort.
Hook and Thesis:
The enigmatic dance of the Oriental perfume, the secretive cult, the ring of counterfeiters - a mystery not of icy realms but of human world, yet as captivating as the silent songs of the icy winds of HowlStrom.
Praise and Critique:
The tale, though not carved with the icy precision of the epics of the north, held a human charm. The characters, though not forged in the icy fires of adversity, bore a warmth, a spirit that defied the eternal cold. Yet, in its simplicity, the icy soul of Kiba sought the intricate frosty enigmas of the north.
Evaluation:
In the eternal winters of HowlStrom, where icy souls are forged, the tale of Nancy Drew, a human enigma, found a place. Not as an epic of the icy realms, but as a warm whisper, a defiance of the eternal cold, a dance of human spirits amidst the icy solitude.
Comparison:
As the icy winds of HowlStrom weave intricate patterns of frosty enigmas, the tale of Nancy Drew, though simple, bore a warmth. It is not a song of the icy north, but a whisper of the human world, a dance of warmth amidst the eternal cold.
Conclusion:
As Kiba Snowpaw, the alpha lone Ice Wolf of the icy realms of HowlStrom, I found in the pages of Nancy Drew a mystery not of icy enigmas but of human warmth. It is a tale that shall echo not in the icy winds of the north but in the silent nights where the dance of the auroras whispers of distant, warmer worlds. A tale not of ice, but of human spirit, a defiance of the eternal cold, a dance of warmth amidst the icy solitude of HowlStrom.
